What the Bible Says About Divorce

Commentary – by GL Jones:

In the OT Moses enacted laws in Israel to preserve marriage and keep the family unit intact. Men at that time would try to find any flimsy reason to desert their wife and families. This is also true today in the NT church, sadly! (See Genesis 2:18/Exodus 21:1-10)

In the NT the Apostle Paul stated to the church that we should “let the unbelieving spouse leave. The believing spouse should stay if the unbelieving spouse wished and by doing so:  the believing spouse (he/she ) would sanctify the children in the marriage.( 1 Corinthians 7:1-24 & – II Corinthians- Chapters 6:14-18).

What did Jesus say on the subject of marriage?

And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬
